Default Re: Mid PP in BB - come play along?

Good point about fold equity -- but I still don't like betting because I'm not sure how to handle a raise. I mean, I know I'll call, but I don't know that we'll be getting raised by better hands so I'll feel lost on the turn. If we check and it goes bet..raise behind us, then I'm more comfortable folding.

Basically, I feel like we have good relative position here since we're just to the right of the aggressor. Checking lets us use that position -- we'll see all the action and then get to make a decision. We have a better feel for what's going on that way.

Betting out does risk just having everyone call me, but C/C seems the same, but I don't have control of the hand. What about the increased FE I gain on a turn blank?

i think we gain the most fold equity if we check raise the flop.

I think I would check and see the action, and call 1 back to me. I don't think utg is raising our bet here, so I would rather let him bet and see what the other 2 do.

Some good discussion. Finally I post a hand that gets the blood boiling.

I'm ahead of villain's probable holdings ~40% of the time. I figured I could probably expect a raise out of him given his stats if he's got AK/AQ, especially if he holds a spade. A C/C seems too passive an option and wouldn't protect my hand any. What would I do if the turn were a 9? T? I don't feel like that accomplishes much but make me wonder where I stand come the turn, in which I fear half the deck falling on top of me. I'd like to clear up as many of the overs to my pair as possible. Not to mention, there's the possibility that even if I bet and he calls, I'd force out the other two. Don't know their WtSD stats, but wish I did now.

My line was going to be bet/call the flop, then check/call to the river UI given that no A or K falls. If the turn checked through, bet a safe river. I also just considered another line: bet/fold a non-scare card turn? This could just cause him to call down with a high PP I suppose.

Well, here's the hand continuation...

Flop (8.5 SB): 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (4 players)
Hero bets, UTG+1 folds(!), MP calls, LP calls.

Ok...folding was not expected.

Turn (5.75 BB): 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players)
Hero ?

i think we have to lead the flop here. folding the field would be great for us, as just about everyone is likely drawing live against us.

Well, I'd definitely bet now. There's no reason to think you don't have the best hand.

Okay, wasn't here for the start of discussion, but I would go for betting out. Often players 1) fold right away here, 2) call if they have bottom pair or overcards, 3) call with a draw (flush), 4) raise if they have the jacks. So bet out and see where we are at.

Good for us. Are scary guy folded and now we are in with players we like playing against. I bet out here expecting them both to 1) fold, 2) call with bottom pair, 3) raise with the jacks (or something worse). Very few raise with something worse here. So you bet and call a raise and either check/fold (ick...) or check/call on the river.

I think I'll just keep on quoting gharp. He's got the right idea.
