Re: VPIP < 20 ?
My current VP$IP for like 9k hands of limit (mostly 5/10 and 8/16) is 18%. Coincidently my VPIP is very similar in NL for liek 20k hands.

Re: VPIP < 20 ?
I was worried about my vp being *lower* than 22%, but then realized i was actually throwing away the more marginal hands in late position. This is something i am working to correct, but also dont think is a big deal. However, i would like to make it unanimous that SSHE is the best guidelines for preflop, with adjustment per skill level and table texture (speed felt, vinyl, lcd etc etc)

Re: VPIP < 20 ?
I would tend to agree. At 13% I start thinking 'too tight' and know what to do when faced with aggression from these people. Of couse with good postflop skills that can turn a fair amount of that around by keeping me off my feet, but with good postflop skills you're missing out on at least half again as many hands as you're playing.

Re: VPIP < 20 ?
Just a quick note to clarify the sample size issue that I see constantly referred to in these forums.
For figuring true "long run" VP$IP, sample size doesn't need to be nearly as large as it does for figuring win rate. For about 5000 hands now at 3/6, I've been using a color spreadsheet of SSH's Tight games pre flop strategy to guide my play. Except for occasionally limping w/ small pocket pairs in EP, I follow it exactly, so my "true" VP$IP doesn't vary day to day based on my mood etc. For 5000 hands my VP$IP is a hair less than 19%. Iv'e also noticed that my individual session VP$IP's, even for sessions of only a couple hundred hands, do not usually vary from the overall score by more than 1-2% I believe it only takes maybe 1-2K hands to get a very, very, close idea of what your longer term VP$IP would be with any particular pre flop strategy. -Lance |

Re: VPIP < 20 ?
22% isn't terrible for loose games, but if you tighten up you'll find yourself winning significantly more. I've gradually lowered mine from 20.8 to 19.5 in the last 15000 hands and my BB/100 definitely reflects it. As far as the two hands you mentioned, I like them much better in MP and LP and prefer to play them for a raise (ideally against passive opponents), although I do limp with AT up front fairly often. I suspect that your postflop play has something to do with those two hands losing for you, but then again, it is a small sample. Post some hands here with decisions that give you trouble, the time you put in reviewing hands and getting feedback will pay off.
