Re: Poker pimping on SportsCenter
[ QUOTE ]
wasn't aware about pedro. how is he going anywhere during the all-star break? isn't he pitching IN the all-star game?? or was he injured at the time anyway. i guess there are more exceptions made then I was aware of...but I think they are still fairly rare. [/ QUOTE ] Unfortunately there were several "exceptions" made during the Pedro years. Often he showed up late for spring training and there were several years that he left a day early for the all star break and came back a day late so he could go back to the Dominican. He also left the during the opening game of the 2004 season, saying he didn't know that he couldn't leave before the game was over. Pedro was a great pitcher for Boston but there were always problems with the two sets of rules, one set for Pedro and one for everybody else. I don't know if he went back to the Dominican this year or not but he passed on a spot on the all star roster. Based on the past history I don't think the current ownership / management group would look to favorably on making exceptions for players to pursue other activities during the baseball season. With Pedro, the precedent had already been set when this ownership group came in. In addition, David Wells pitched on day 1A of the ME. I suppose he could have registered and played with the hope of getting a different starting day but it seems unlikely that it was this David Wells. |

[ QUOTE ] He played in the WSOP for pokerstars if I am not mistaken. [/ QUOTE ] That'd be a tad hard to do since he's an active player. Baseball's usually not that forgiving to people who gamble. Back in the early 80's, commissioner Bowie Kuhn banned Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle from being involved in baseball for being a greeter at AC casinos. [/ QUOTE ] does the mlb really enforce the no gambling rule when it comes to poker? bummer. rj |
