I found that the internet ruined B&M poker for me.

I can't sit around for an hour and not get one playable hand.

[/ QUOTE ]

Same here.

For some reason, I'm needing to have all those checks stacked up in front of me

Then do what I do while playing internet poker....

Keep a stack of chips on your desk top and shuffle chips while you play. Keeps my chip handling skills honed and when I win I add more chips to my stack.

[/ QUOTE ]

That's actually really dumb.

Three days of live playing and now the internet seems dull, flat, boring - darn.

[/ QUOTE ]

I used to think this way, but after awhile, making 4x the money that I made playing live didn't seem quite as dull, flat and boring. Plus, I started getting this large sum of extra money in my online account every month for doing absolutely nothing.

5 weeks a yr. of vacation time (of which I have used/booked 3 so far counting the NYC trip in July)

but it's that 3 day work week I get every two weeks (third week is a 4 day work week) - 4 days off at a time means if it can be done Sat-Tues, I can do it without vacation time.

[/ QUOTE ]

What the hell do you do that you have so much time off?

we're expected to work every holiday, and those vacation days also double as sick days -

so, two weeks of vacation+2 weeks of what would have been sick days in the old days plus 6 days of floating holidays = 5 weeks -

but I work christmas/new years if it's on my shift - and probably every thanksgiving, etc, etc....

I enjoy both, for their different virtues, but what poker has really done most notably is change home games for me.

People bumbling around and almost always waiting till it is their turn to lean back from the table to sieze the stage and start blabbling off their stories of the day, holding the whole rest of the table hostage -- one guy after the next, over and over all night -- frustrates the hell out of me, and actually starts to spark my aggression way too high for friendly home games. Home game players just look at the game completely differently than I do now, and what would have everyone on a casino table in a riot and calling the floorman is just standard behavior for home game buddies.

I'm perfectly capable of playing poker while yapping and grabbing a beer from the fridge, without slowing down the game. It seems natural to me that everyone should be able to do that. But most people aren't. They're having fun, that's all, and actually cycling through poker hands with less than abysmal speed is just not important to them. They're there to socialize, and if I insist on actually playing your hand when you're at the poker table, I just come off as angry or fixated and a party pooper.

I really have to make a radical adjustment to play home games now that is sometimes pretty difficult to me, or I'll wind up nagging people. To me, home games aren't even poker anymore, they're just sort of very relaxed parties that are kind of "organized around the theme of poker."
