It's a fictional character. Little angels fly it over the top of the flat disk that we inhabit on a daily basis. The path varies with the menstrual cycles of the angels involved. Male angels are only used as replacements during leap years, and they're taught how to vary the path so as not to disturb "us."

Well I think you have your answer from multiple sources. Why would you think it is not a star?

Ever notice that on Star Trek, whenever they got close to some random star, it sort of looked like the sun?
