1. im pretty sure the ball hit the dirt. it comes up at the end.

2. paul should have tagged the guy. no reason not to. in the alcs.

3. the only reason that im unsure of whether what happened was fair or not is because the umpire made the "out" fist. thats not how umps call strikes. when umps pump the fist, its an out.

Just because the ball moves "up" does not mean it hit the dirt. Can we agree on that?

no

Black Jack McDowell is on Fox Chicago, and says the ball definitely hit the ground. That's good enough for me!

1-1 baby. We needed this. Buehrle was awesome tonight. He was dealing and coming out for the 10th if Crede didn't come through.

I was almost going to ignore you for that. This is one of the dumbest comments that I have ever read on this forum.

Glove can exert a force on the ball also.

I mean it was not even close, the guy caught it end of story.

At least a handful of people on this board saw it differently. I don't think you can say it wasn't close. Your boy should have put on the tag, like the guy he replaced would have, and the guy he should have tagged would have. End of story.

Did anyone see the zoomed in view of the pitch?

ESPN is only showing the regular view, my local channel zoomed in.

I don't really care either way, although I do like controversy. But for all of you who say they saw the ball move ... have you ever caught a baseball? You don't always catch it right where it will finally sit in your glove. That is why the glove is bigger than the ball. It hits the webbing and then you grip it. Most replays of catches will show the ball moving like that.

It doesn't matter weather he caught it or not.

That play counts as a strike out regardless, so maybe the ring up is moot.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is only true if you care only about the pitcher's stats, and not who wins the game.

[/ QUOTE ]
I'm saying, I'm not sure what the rule is here. If he rings it up it counts as the third strike, but does it necessarily mean he's out in this scenario?

Besides, Paul didn't see that signal. In fact, I believe he rolled the ball away before the ump ever made it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Strike three doesn't nessessarly mean that the batter is out. If the catcher doesn't catch the ball, the batter can run to first. It still counts as a strikeout for statistics, however. The record for strikeouts in an inning is 4.
