only two bucks a pop [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, maybe only $2 from your bank, but the casinos will charge you around $20 for the convenience. Stay away from the ATMs in the casinos if possible. |

get a $500 chip from the cashier. Just don't let it fall out a hole in your pocket. [/ QUOTE ] Don't worry, if I was up five hundred and had two chips in my pocket, I'd walk around like the biggest dweeb in the world, keeping my hand in my pants at all times. I'm not one for subtelty, except at the tables. JA SUKER you must have been the one talking about the room safes and not trusting them, thats where I got the idea from, but if they also let you check money at the front desk, that sounds like a plan to me. Thanks for all the tips. |

Re: Where to safeguard cash in Vegas?
I'd be interested in hearing more about Traveler's checks. Are they really that bad? I doubt any casino would refuse them, am I wrong?
I'm planning on only taking about $1K with me in August, and I was a bit curious about the best way to handle it. |

Get a safe deposit box when you check in. Simple & secure - Just don't lose the damn key!

Re: Where to safeguard cash in Vegas?
Get a money clip and stick it in your front pocket. I quit carrying a traditional back-pocket wallet years ago and switched to a nice money clip 'slash' wallet thingy that I can keep my drivers license, a couple credit cards and some cash. I keep it in my front pocket so I have no worries about someone lifting it. Any money clip can easily hold 20 or so bills without being to cumbersome.
Like Dynasty said - carrying $3k around is not a huge deal. Even if you are walking down the strip at 4am there's still a bazillion people walking around and as a long as you don't take shortcuts or detours in hidden places you will be fine. My last trip, I had in chips and cash around $5k on me pretty much all the time. I never worried about it one bit... |

Re: Where to safeguard cash in Vegas?
Its not that they won't take traveler's checks, I'm sure they all do, its just a real hassle (to me at least), especially if you lose some of them. Constantly cashing them in, etc...

The casinos don't charge a greater fee than anyone else to use an ATM. Do you think they want you to think twice about taking money out at a casino ATM due to a higher fee? In response to the original question, if you don't want to carry $3,000 around, leave some in a safe deposit box at the front desk. |

Re: Where to safeguard cash in Vegas?
Why would anyone in Vegas look twice at a guy with a measly 3 thou in his pocket, when there are people all over the place with Real Money?
Wrap a rubber band around it, and stick it in your front pocket. Try not to act like a dweeb. |

Re: Where to safeguard cash in Vegas?
I guess I'm weird, because I've ALWAYS kept my wallet in my front pocket and assume a lot of other people do as well.
Hopefully the way my trip will go is I cash in a few Traveler's Checks to play some 4-8, then never have to cash another check the rest of the trip. |
