Re: Close your eyes and bet (online)
[ QUOTE ]
Just wondering if anyone else does this. You come to a point in the hand where you know you are "supposed" to bet but it's not an easy bet for you to make. You press the bet button and close your eyes, or tab off the window, so that you don't watch the result unfold. [/ QUOTE ] No, but...when I am playing in an NL tourney, and I push all-in preflop, I'll sometimes stand up and walk a few feet away from the computer, watching from a distance to see whether a flop will be dealt. If I don't win the blinds, and I'm in a race with my PP against AK, I'll chant as the cards are dropping "No ace, no king; no ace, no king; no ace, no king..." |

If they raise you, the window comes back to focus (it's back on top) and eventually you get a beep.

Re: Close your eyes and bet (online)
I usually squint but keep watching. I also squint when I'm on a flush draw in a monster pot just so I can discern the color of the card. If it's off color, I swear and fold. If it's the right color, I'll gradually open my eyes to see if it's the right suit. This used to work really well but has faltered lately.

[/ QUOTE ] Hey Chess, I love the exquisite anxiety when all-in. The highs, the lows, all in about 3 seconds--it's like a drug. And I hate the "Let's flip the community BEFORE the hole cards when all-in" at Party. There's something totally sucky about getting the "you're a loser" pop-up before you realize what you lost to. |

Re: Close your eyes and bet (online)
That's funny. In B&M play I've normally run the poor devil so far through the mud that by the time the river comes he's wondering if it's safe to call with the nuts.
Actual quote from the best 20 game I've ever played. Player 1 "You had the nuts why didn't you raise?" Player 2 " because every time he raises I lose." |

Re: Close your eyes and bet (online)
I do this to. I find yelling "fold" helps too.
My favorite "doesn't work in B&M" trick is yelling "PAIR BOARD, PAIR" when you've got a set and the board is looking awfully flush or straight draw like. To be serious, I try to keep the exact same demeanor and posture when I'm online as when I'm at a table. I just try to make sure I'm always doing the same thing, so if inbetween bets I ALWAYS sit the same way, I hope that I'm not giving away any information. |
