Re: Why dont black people play poker?
I haven't been to FW in a while, but I remember seeing the proportionate number of black players there. Certainly at Mohegan when the poker room was open.

Re: Why dont black people play poker?
why are there so few black hockey players?
Because it's a sport whose main fan and player base is Canadian and northern and eastern European? |

Re: Why dont black people play poker?
Why not: Religion, family attitudes toward public gambling, playing poker in places other than the card rooms you frequent.
That said, especially before the poker boom, most ethnic groups (blacks included) where well represented in the card rooms I have frequented. Especially California and Mississippi. |

Re: Why dont black people play poker?
[ QUOTE ]
why are there so few black hockey players? [/ QUOTE ] TOP FIVE REASONS BLACK GUYS DON'T PLAY HOCKEY (We only got 5 'cause The Man wouldn't let us have 10.) 5. It’s cold out there. 4. Scared to get a gold tooth knocked out. 3. Don’t want to be around white guys with sticks. 2. Don’t want to be around with a white guy in a mask. And the number 1 reason black guys don't play Hockey... 1. Don’t feel the need to dominate yet another sport. From "The Dark Side With Nat X" (Chris Rock on Saturday Night Live, ’91) |

Re: Why dont black people play poker?
Well...
At the risk of p'litical incorrectness (like I give a [censored] about THAT)... I think you have made a valid observation. I base my comments on extensive play in both atlantic city and vegas. Neither place had a large, or seemingly even proportional # of players compared to the expected population of black people. Now I am not sure what the precise "expected" number of black people would be, but my observations seem to agree with the idea that few black people play poker. Of course there are exceptions. One of my college buddies, highly educated and intelligent, is a fair poker player, and has been a regular in the local home games for 15 years. But I think they are more the exception than the rule. I believe this is due to social factors more than anything else. I know many black people. However, IS it any wonder that most of these friends of mine were met playing basketball and not poker? There are certainly many of my basketball buddies that can afford to play poker, but few of them do. I think it's just a socialization thing, and nothing more. Most black boys play basketball, but few black men play poker. I cannot explain, but I think it's pretty obvious that this is true. al |

Re: Why dont black people play poker?
if you would like to play poker with some black dudes and ladies (alongside every other race and nationality imaginable) why not come on down to hollywood park, there are plenty. sometimes it's fascinating what a melting pot you find in the LA cardrooms.

Re: Why dont black people play poker?
[ QUOTE ]
why are there so few black hockey players? [/ QUOTE ] It is well known that black people do not like cold climates. [ QUOTE ] the reason there are fewer blacks than whites playing poker could be that there are fewer blacks than whites in the country, or that the average black guy has less money than the average white guy. [/ QUOTE ] um..... LOL |
