There are only 3 combos of JJ

[/ QUOTE ]

that's not very many I agree but how many combos of XX also play the way villain did

There is only one combo of XX

Hehe. But seriously, I dont understand your question.

ok it's sort of like the situation i think in TOP where the example is actually in stud, and you are showing

xxJJJJx

and villain is showing

xx3456x

all in hearts

there are only two cards that could beat you here; 2h and 7h --- so why not bet it right?? absolutely not!! because the only way you are getting action is off of those specific two cards

the point being, even if there is only one combo of JJ you still need to find other hands that would play in this manner in order to find value in a bet.

The only hand that beats you right now is JJ.

yes, there is a straight draw, but really, is a supposed TAG capping PF with 96 or 64, I really don't think so. I meant to say logical hand

T9 is the nuts.

55, 77, 88, QQ, KK, AA, AJx-AJs are all reasonable starting holdings for this player. Also, Capping small PPs like 55-77 and/or AJs preflop against a blind to give the impression of a big holding and to instill passivity in the blind is not unreasonable for this player.

Check/call the river. If he's overplaying someting you beat on the turn, the # of times he doens't pay you off if you raise + the number of times he has you crushed likely kill whatever value you're getting out of the times he does pay off a river raise.

Hero is SB and first to act in this hand. Do you still advocate check/calling?

Are you suggesting bet/folding? I don't like it, I want to see showdown.

Agreed! The day I fold a set without a four flush or a four straight, specifically TJQK on board, is the day I should quit poker. I think I want two bets in on this river. We are good most of the time here and an overplayed AJ would certainly raise you here.

You may be beat, but you are good often enough that you don't want KK or QQ to check behind here. I would bet and you certainly swallow your medicine and call if you are raised.

After you get capped on the turn you are probably losing and should checkcall the river unless you quad up. Possible hands:

JJ - The obvious choice and the only hand that fits perfectly.

T9s - This is a reasonable steal hand and people do cap hands like this sometimes to create fold equity.

77 - Certainly possible but he capped preflop so it isn't on a par with JJ.

55 - It's possible.

AA/KK/QQ - He's way out of line to cap the turn. It's possible but it doesn't fit your tentative read.

TT/99/the rest - We've all seen worse, but these are pretty unlikely.
