Re: 403-3
Typical.
Politicians without principles value power. Part of keeping their power is to not alienate their voters. Anytime they can claim both sides of an issue then they can tell both sides I voted with you. E.g. Kerry and clan acting pro-war when the polls were favorable and then doing a 180 now the polls show falling support for the war. The Republicans out-maneuvered the Dems. The Dems that voted for the war now want to play both sides of the issue by VERBALLY declaring that they now opposed the war and want the troops home. So the Repubs called their bluff and put it to a vote . Now the Dems faced an ackward situation. If they voted for withdrawal they would be accused as weak cut-and-run cowards. If Bush43 succeeds in Iraq, then they can't claim any of the credit. The Dems took the politically expediate course. They have no principles except to regain power. You got to give credit to the Repub leadership. They shut the Dems up. |

Re: 403-3
I wish they had this vote in the Senate. It would be great to watch the Presidential contenders squirm on this one.

[ QUOTE ] the Iraqi Army is simply not getting ready, any time soon! [/ QUOTE ] Although the death sqads seem to be in better shape. [/ QUOTE ] So, what does that say about the state of sentiment in Iraq about the new "democracy" |

Re: Troop Pullout Vote
Murtha's bill said something along the lines of, "as soon as is feasible". What does that mean? Try to put a rough timetable on that.
If it is just another way of saying as soon as the job is done, then there is no need to introduce the bill. If he is implying a specific timetable, he should state it. A large majority of American's want troops to be withdrawn immediately. Why not do it proper and introduce a resolution saying as much. Apparently having majority opinion on your side isn't even enough to get Dems to take a stand. |

Re: Troop Pullout Vote
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Of course it will fail. It's a Republican "rewrite" of Murtha's bill that is specifically designed to be unacceptable. It's a political propaganda ploy, and is not worthy of being treated as anything more. q/q [/ QUOTE ] And the Democratic bill wasn't politics either? It's all a political game. [/ QUOTE ] The Dems are trying to keep more young boys from getting killed in a lost cause, how is that politics? How can I say this? History is not on our side. |

You got to give credit to the Repub leadership. They shut the Dems up. [/ QUOTE ] They know the dems favorite tactic is to criticize without offering specific alternatives. They made a bet and the repubs came over the top and they folded like the wussies they are. |

Everything is poker with you. [/ QUOTE ] And poker strategy is often very applicable to both domestic politics adn geo-political/military strategy. And this just does happen to be poker website. [ QUOTE ] The dems had an idea to make the president give a quarterly report on the progress made in Iraq, so the repugs stole it. [/ QUOTE ] When I'm playing poker, I steal every pot I can. It's the right thing to do. And I don't try to steal from calling stations. However habitual bluffers are great targets. The repubs recongnized the dems as such a player. |

When I looked on CNN yesterday it was 70/30 in favor of pull out. This is with the same question using the "immediate" term. |
