Cost of protection vs a 6 outer is too high; sure, some times he will be bluffing with a ~6out draw; sometimes he hits; and sometimes we pay it off. That parlay is very small compared to raw 100$ risked on the flop to prevent this.

[/ QUOTE ]

I would have bet $130 on the flop anyway if he checked to me. I'm not going to allow any sort of less than one quarter pot bet on the flop to freeze me up.

I'm just gonna ignore that bet and take the initiative back with authority.

Ego aside, letting him dictate bet size w/ position is the higher EV route.

Think about it this way; if you would've bet 130 and he folds, he just earned you 30 more if are ahead. If you were behind, he just saved you 100.

Also, I think betting the pot vs opponent described on this board isn't optimal either, but to each his own.

Jim - hope you won a nice one.

Regardless the interesting decision on this hand is raising the river for value.

I was thinking about this, but I am having trouble of thinking of a hand that will call the raise that we beat. Can you think of any?

An overpair.

You make that raise at the end you are saying, "I backed into the straight".

Someone with QQ will either believe you and fold, or think you are full of crap and call. And that's when you show them two pair.

I've made this exact same play with T8 on a 9863T board and got called by JJ.

I find it highly unlikely for villain to have an overpair here.

is something like 89 really out of villain's hand range here?

Going for full value would have made this hand interesting.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is why I posted the hand. It seemed VERY unlikely that villian would have an 8, with 89 and 88 being the only possibilities. I'm not really sure whether or not he would have called my PF raise OOP with a suited connector or not, but figured that he would call with any/all PPs.

I basically decided that there just weren't enough hands that he could call me with... and that he wouldn't make a big call with anything less than TPTK, and that he was about as likely to have an 8 or a set as he was to have TPTK or better, but worse than my two pair.

i think calling the flop is the best play

It very well might have been... but I would have raised him with ANYTHING with that weak ass bet.

In my experience... 1/4 pot bets are just begging to be blown off a hand.

I post $10 live straddle. EP (UTG+2) limps. Folds to BB who completes. I decide I'm going to steal this pot regardless of what I have.

[/ QUOTE ]

i don't think this is a great plan, but i like your aggressiveness

[/ QUOTE ]

Given the players involved, I expected this to take it down about 75%+ of the time.
