just be open-minded about it

I took a WGST course in my second year - it was one of the easiest and most interesting courses out there

it's not a male-bashing course - it's a course on the topics that you put in your OP

although you'll get the odd radical feminist that may take it too far (there are radicalists in every facet of life) you'll probably learn a lot - that is if you want to

man there are a lot of misogynistic people on these boards (not talking about you OP)

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, one of the reasons why I first decided to take the course was because it seemed like it would cover some interesting subject matter (and I'm a pretty liberal guy, so I'll probably agree with some of the more biased stuff). Really, I was just kind of curious as to whether or not I should expect dirty looks the first day I walk into class.

Not to hijack this thread, but just let me address some of the stuff you said.

While the way that that girl debated you, by making false assumptions about you was ridiculous, not everything the said was completely wrong (although most of it was pretty far off).

If it were taught by a good professor or someone you knew recommended it I would take the course. I would also not expect to get dirty looks the first day of class, but if you start arguing and take exception to some of the BS then you will start to be poorly received no matter what you say.

I don't think all of the stuff she was saying was wrong either, I'm a fairly liberal guy in a lot of ways (though recently I have totally given up those labels, they really are useless to me) and I agree with the some of the basic sentiments. The part that really annoyed me was that I took exception to something the rest of the class agreed on, and because mine was a more conservative view I got totally ransacked by everyone. While some of the stuff they were saying was totally off the wall, I agreed with parts of the ir basic premise but the discussion's tone was not productive at all.

Anyways, a lot of college students (even at supposedly elite top schools) have really unsophisticated political views, both left and right, and are immature and reactionary. When the one girl (black) said something waaay off base about me being rich and growing up isolated (totally untrue) my friend tried to convince me to drop the affirmative action bomb but even I did not have the balls to do that. now that would have made it a class.

I think that for enough money, I'd be up for it, so long as in addition to the money for the bet, you guys paid for the T-shirt and ball reattachment surgery after they get torn off by this group

Going to the first class in drag and bad makeup also has challenge potential.

Or insisting on photo-ing/videoing all the class members so you can 'post em on an internet board for your buddies to rate em all' is another challenge potential.

Wear a wire to every class.

When your teacher tries to flunk you, you will have the evidence.

After you get your final grade, you can do an exposé.

Be prepared.

In a social justice class myself and a group of friends were called Sexist A-holes, because we would not agree that the wnba is just as good of a product as the NBA. Then she said that she hopes people like us never get jobs because of our sexism. This was in the education program.

Be sure to use the words 'chick' and 'babe' as often as possible during class.
