You need to change your avatar to some image from the video, hopefully a good shot of the cats fighting.

They're WMV so it's not an audio codec problem. I have no idea (unless this is something blatantly obvious like not using the right player or not having your speakers plugged in :P)

yeah, everything else works, it just seems that windows media player won't have sound when movies play. and of course .wmv won't open in quicktime.

Are you sure you have the lastest drivers for your sound card? If you updated Media Player(could be done automatically without your noting) and it doesn't work with your sound card's drivers any longer, that could be it.

Well, use System Restore in Windows to save how your system is now.

Then check on the website of your soundcard or computer manufacturer to see if there are any drivers that came out that are newer than the ones you have. If so, and there's an automatic feature, use it. Otherwise, do an uninstall of your old drivers, then install the new ones.

Also check Windows Update to see if there are any new drivers listed there. That can be an easier way to do it. Sometimes Windows will come out with drivers that are newer but not as good in one way or another, but you'll probably be fine. At any rate, either the web site or the Windows Update business will get you newer drivers, if you even need them.

You should probably check for other things that need updated drivers, if any do, and check to see if your Windows Media Player itself has a newer version out. This kinda stuff is good to check every couple or few months if you don't have auto-update on in Windows.
