Re: WTF - Betting the flopped, almost unbeatable nuts - tonights wsop
Matasow had been super aggressive at the featured table, so maybe the dude though that Mike might check-raise him all-in if he bet the flop. He ended up making a nice bet on the river that Matasow called.

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] 55 and 87 folded and Mouth called. A 5 came on the turn and KJ would have had 55's entire stack. I don't get the bet at all. If someone had a J or K, they would have bet...or would bet eventually. If someone has something that could make a very good hand that could not beat a full house like a smaller full house, or a str8 or flush, they may be scared away by the flop bet. [/ QUOTE ] People on this board are very results oriented. If the 5 doesn't come, all of a sudden his slowplay gains nothing. I thought he played the hand very well, if the turn was anything but a 5 or 10, he probably got the max he could have. [/ QUOTE ] Plus, if he checks the flop, then a blank hits the turn, and then all of a sudden he shows aggression, it looks like he was slowplaying a big hand. By betting the flop, it looks more like he was just taking a shot at picking up a pot no one else wanted. Betting the flop is definitely the right play here, especially against thinking players. |

Matusow looked like he was trying to weasel out of a call with his call retraction move on the river.

What about Matusow's motion forward with the chips in his hand? Is that an angle shoot? Could that have been ruled a call if he folded and KJ guy asked for a ruling?

Building a pot starts with betting the flop.
