[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Sure, it would be interesting. Too many problems to overcome though. Where would they play? [/ QUOTE ] Same as a regular best-of-7. 2-3-2 home/road/home. Use some random or alternating way to determine home field advantage. [/ QUOTE ] How many travel days for all the jet lag? If it's after the WS it's going to be pretty cold in most cities. [/ QUOTE ] It would only be 1 week after the WS is played now, which shouldn't be a huge weather difference. If they could move the playoffs up 3-4 days it would help keep us in October and not November. Plus, it would usually end on game 4 anyway. As far as the time difference, consider a team playing a 8:00 (pacific time) west coast game, taking a day off, and then playing a 1pm EST east coast game. That is a 10 hour shift in start time. If you played 8pm US (east) and then 8pm Japan time, thats an 11 hour shift. While not optimal, I think the day off makes this feasible. |

[ QUOTE ] I don't have any evidence to suggest that the any team but the winner of the MLB World Series is the world's best baseball team. Not needed IMO and I probably would see it only as a novalty. [/ QUOTE ] That's what NFL fans thought about the winner of their championship games. Then Super Bowl III and IV happened. [/ QUOTE ] This is a lot less like the AFC vs the NFC and a lot more like NFL vs NCAA or MLB vs AAA. |

Then Super Bowl III and IV happened. A more recnet example may be the U.S. national basketball team's losses in international play. In 1992, the Dream Team was much further ahead of the world than the White Sox (or any other World Series champion) are. Now, they're getting embarassed. |

This would only be interesting if the manager of the losing team had to perform Hara Kiri.

The two situations aren't analogous. In international competition, countries compete against each other, not leagues.
Let me put it this way: the best JPL players come to MLB and the worst MLB players go to the JPL. Tadahito Iguchi plays for Chicago. Benny Agbayani plays for Chiba Lotte. We know fairly well that the level of play in the JPL is somewhere around AAA. |

Also, in the case of basketball, apathy is a major component to the USA's underachievement. Of course the rest of the world has come a long way, but let's not kid ourselves here - they're not there yet. |

[/ QUOTE ] Do you really have "evidence" to show that the WS winner is the best team in MLB? Because often times, the WS winner is not the best team. The point of the MLB playoffs/WS isn't to determine the best team. It is to determine the champion. There is a difference. |
