The psychological difference you felt and your bankroll size makes it clear your "appropriate" level is probably the $1-$5 buyins. But that doesn't mean you should never play a bigger tournament, especially if you can win your way in. If nothing else, it helps you see the difference so you can evaluate your progress on this point in the future. In 50's and below, I feel "the right way" about the early money, but I still play bigger events sometimes, even though I get a little nervous around the bubble and once in the money. It has helped, now I'm pretty much conmfortable in 100's. No other way to learn.
