Re: AJ calling and calling and calling
I disagree. AJo is a good hand to open with in an unraised pot. It will often make top pair on the flop - but is subject to domination and does not play well in mult-way pots as such - hence the raise to drive out customers. Yes, we will be OOP later but is defintiely not a hand to dump. That being said...as I said in my reply to the OP...facing two more raises after leading out THEN consider dumping it (see Shillx's odds reply) P. 73 of SSH talks about AJ in this manner.

Re: AJ calling and calling and calling
yeah, given the passive table, calling the cap is not in your best interest. I'd fold early and get out. The only hands that you'll be winning anything with are two pair (unless AA is sitting out there), straight, or trips.
the flop should've been folded as well given the fact that you know you'll probably be putting in 2 SB, if not more, which gives you 1:11 implied odds. You probably don't even have 5 outs (an ace or a jack) given the heavy action preflop. so yeah, I would've just folded this. |

Re: AJ calling and calling and calling
I'd raise the flop and fold the river.

Re: AJ calling and calling and calling
Thank you for your replies. Looks like I had to fold it PF after it is two bets to me.

Flop: Now the pot is large and we have TPBK AND we're trapped between two raisers. [/ QUOTE ] Wrong. We have TPTK. [ QUOTE ] There is a flush draw on the board and anyone with Ax is already way ahead of us. [/ QUOTE ] What on earth are you talking about? |

Re: AJ calling and calling and calling
Getting 15.5:2 preflop, I might fold. We're dominated fairly often here.
Tough to play after that. I treat it as a drawing hand and fold the turn UI. |

[/ QUOTE ] I think TPBK was supposed to mean top pair best kicker, not top pair bad kicker. To OP: I'm with the crowd of fold when it's 2 bets back to us PF. Both Button and BB are telling us they have monster hands since you described the whole table as passive. Since you did call this, I think the flop is a raise or fold situation. If it gets capped after you, then I would fold expecting to see AA/KK out there. |

Re: AJ calling and calling and calling
Oh, thanks. I was wondering if I was missing something or what. I even went back through the original post a couple of times...

Re: AJ calling and calling and calling
AJo is a nice raising hand, but when it comes back capped, you've got reverse implied odds working against you in a very bad way, so you should fold.

Re: AJ calling and calling and calling
You derive them. So let's take the chance of flopping 2 pair. There are 3 aces in the deck and there are 3 jacks left as well. There are 44 other cards. So the odds of the flop coming AJx (where x is not an ace or jack) is...
p = 3*3*44*6 / (50/49/48) = .020204 = 2.02% The last term in the numerator comes from the number of ways that you can combine the 3 cards. So the flop can come out AJx,JAx,AxJ,JxA,xAJ,xJA for a total of six different combinations. Brad |
