I know everyone thinks the scenes with the children are great but I thought they were overwrought and too sentimental. Still a great book but my favorite of his is The Posessed (The Demons).

Oh, I get it. We're gamblers, so our favorite books are about gambling.

i remember reading somewhere that dostoevsky had a crippling gambling addiction and that he had to write one of his major novels (the possessed, maybe) in a really brief amount of time to pay off his gambling debt.

The Brothers Karamazov is the best novel I've ever read, and Notes From Underground was the reason I read it.

This is in the foreword to Brothers. I believe it was the Gambler that he wrote in three weeks.

One of those on my list that I never seem to get any closer to.

I've read Notes from Underground, The Gambler, and Crime and Punishment. Liked them all, a lot, too. Just haven't gotten around to any more.
