I like the quote and your advice. I have him covered by 30K. I see that pushing against AK would be just fine. If i win i have huge chips, if i lose i am still in contention. Do you personaly push every time here? what about a reraise to 40K or should I just get it all in there? and if I run into AA then so be it right.

well, if you KNEW that he had AK, then of course it'd be better to see a flop, let him bet, then push if no A or K is on the flop. unfortunately his range is almost certainly bigger than AK.

and yeah, if you raise PF, you ahve to push.

I did fold it and he took the blinds. That decision didn't sit well for me that's why I posted. My friend first said push then I convinced him folding was not so bad. I needed to find outside opinions on this one. What's the lowest pair to push here? 99+?

I think I'd push here, he put in a pretty big raise there with blinds so high, there is 21K in the pot now, and he has about 60K left. If he folds (not likely he put in 1/5th of his stack, but he might if he is holding a mid pp or lower) you win 21K, if he calls you have a chance to win 81K. You are ahead of most hands he is raising with here.

I'd say you left out some key information.

1)how close to the money or the next step up the money ladder?

2) Read on villain?

3) Read villain might have on you?

4) Stack size and defense profile of blinds?

Folding JJ here is rather weak tight. Your stack isn't as big as you think it is, either. It's big for this stage of the game, but you can't comfortably fold your way higher and higher.

I probably push PF because FE is high here. When I have a big stack I like to use it to make life difficult for other players.

[ QUOTE ]
I almost never coin flip if I dont have to. My stack being this size means that I dont have to, so pushing in preflop is not an option for me. Maybe that is something I need to fix. So nobody likes to fold here? Man, I must be tight or just plain scared. JJ is good hand to me but not great. Lets say you called and its a Q high flop. He bets 20K. what now?

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, if you want to win a tournament, you can't wait for only QQ-AA and 75% favorite shots. You have to gamble sometimes.

(And you have to get the myths about The Horrors of Coinflips out of your head. But that's been my personal pet peeve lately.)

EDIT: Also everything that Kurn said though my advice still generally applies.
