So you're starting with 170BB. You have loads and loads of time to wait for the hands unless blinds are going up like every 10 minutes.

Don't feel you have to play because everyone else is. If they're doing that, they aren't paying attention to the fact you aren't playing.

But as for advice? I'd be more loose in late position, you'll have the donkfield in front of you and when you hit that crazy flop of 557 with your 75s, you'll get the value you expect.

Push more often with two pair, trips, etc. Do not try to get greedy. Make someone else make a huge mistake.

You might also try posting this question on the beginners forum. During the summer there were many posts similar to this (including one from me).

Fortunately for you, as a previous poster said, your starting stack relative to the blinds is favorable. From experience I would say a few things:

(1) Don't try to bet/raise anyone out of the pot. It will never work--any bet, and I mean ANY, will be viewed as a pot sweetener.

(2) While the blinds are low, play more hands that can become Big Hands--straight or flush possibilities--when you have position. But be prepared to let them go if the flop does not improve you.

(3) Even though it seems like those around you will play anything all the way to the showdown, don't bank on it. You still have to read the board and let weaker hands go rather than lose all your chips.

(4) Chip stack management will get you further than fancy play. Manage your stack and let the other gamblers knock themselves out, then when you are in the money or close, begin to make your own moves.

(5)When you flop the nuts are a very good hand, value bet value bet value bet!

I play against a good mixture of complete maniacs and calling stations, about once a month (lucky me!). Beekeepers post hits the nail right on the head. That's the same way I play those crazy tournaments. Playing good drawing hands cheaply, in late position and when the blinds are small, could pay off big.

Some good hands for this strategy would be: Axs, Kxs, suited
connectors, suited one gappers, higher suited 2 gappers, like KTs Q9s J8s, offsuit connectors, and any pocket pair.
Even with these modest starting hands, you are still playing much tighter than the donkeys.

If my stack dwindles down to less than 30 big blinds, I will slow down on this strategy.

Although the tournament I play in is weakly, I wish it was weekly!
