I think the idea that you can just "kill off" all the bad bacteria doesn't really work, or else you could gargle bleach once and never have bad breath again. I think the idea is to adjust the overall balance of bacteria in your mouth by changing the environment they live in. I'm sure you could get more information about this, but one simple thing that helps me is just to stay really well-hydrated.

CVS, Walgreens, Stop & Shop, whatever....

Dentist first. The pills won't make a lick of difference if your gums are rotting...

If it is really a problem, go spend some money and get a chlorine dioxide mouthwath. It is a very powerful oxidizing agent that is used for tons of different processes including paper bleaching and water treatment. Bad breath is caused by bacteia breaking down an ammino acid that contains sulfur (cysteine). The mouthwash inhibits the enzyme present in the bacteria and effectively eliminates halitosis. Stuff like toothpase and scope isn't effective for bad breath and is really only good for masking the problem for a short period of time.

Well, I wouldn't say toothpaste is completely ineffective for bad breath. The less crap between your teath and on your tounge, the less of a chance for bacteria to breed.

How about hydrogen peroxide? That will kill most anything won't it? And I see on the label that it says you can use it as a mouth rinse, and that it is in a lot of dental products. Is that a good call for killing mouth bugs dead?

Yeah, the bacteria eats whatever it is that it eats then takes a big fat dump in your mouth.

I love the scientific explanations available in OOT.

[/ QUOTE ]

it's fairly accurate. But the "dump" is mostly gas.

Sorry, "then takes a big fat 'fart' in your mouth."

The most frequent cause of bad breath is excessive bacteria buildup on the back of your tongue. The cleaner your tongue is, the better. Beyond that there are numerous other uncommon causes which you'd need to see a dentist for.

Default How do you know if you have it?

I smell other peoples bb. How do you check your own?

I'll wake up sometimes and know I need a toothbrush immediately, yet I can't really smell it.
