Checking this hand on this board twice sucks balls.

I probably muck PF too. the pot is tiny and you have 8 high.

As it is, c/r lead call down is the most viable line.

"The nuts," without qualification, refers to the best possible hand given the board.

"The nut xxxxx," where xxxxx is some poker hand, refers to the best possible hand of that rank, and may not be the absolute best hand possible. The OP used "nut straight" correctly here - he has the best possible straight, but may be beaten by someone with the made flush.

You really think checking the flop is that bad with the pot this small and the typical opponents here?

I do. Checking accomplishes nothing. You have a made hand that will get paid off by anyone holding a high lone heart. Open folding is probably better than checking, since you're not trying to extract any value out of the hand anyway and might as well give it away to not only any heart, but anyone holding a KT who can get a free turn that gives him a better draw, etc..

I don't want it to check through, and also any monkey with a high heart is going to raise this flop, as well as most pairs, so I can 3-bet it.

that was my intention on the turn. i was in the sb with extremly marginal cards. i had no equity in the pot. if the turn was a non-heart non-straight card i had the intention to check-raise. if i didn't get to cr the turn, no big deal. small pot and i can bet out on the river if a non heart comes.
