[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I don't like the flop checkraise. Someone please convince me why it's a good idea. [/ QUOTE ] it's good when you didn't call a pre-flop raise. then it's a better disguise or make them fold a marginal hand. [/ QUOTE ] That's one way to look at it. Another is: I'm choosing to put in two bets with a flush draw that may be dead and has no other outs, in a heads-up pot, where I may get three-bet, and am losing money on every dollar that goes in. It's not bad in theory; against the right player its a good idea. But you need to have a real sense that your opponent will fold overcard or maybe even a hand like 66 unimproved on the turn. It's important to remember that it's pretty hard to get small stakes opponents, unless they are known to be pretty taggish or weak, to fold hands easily. The "disguise" idea is one of those things people greatly overestimate. How many extra bets are you actually making when you hit your flush because of your disguise? The answer is almost none. The nature of your opponent and his cards pretty much determine whether he'll pay you off at these limits, and small manipulations like this are not really necessary or useful. |
