You're in the early stages of a tournament. If you're better than the field, you shouldn't be putting in a lot of extra money on close gambles. On fourth, you are either a little ahead or way behind. You have the caller to worry about. You will either win the minimum or lose the maximum. I would save my chips for a better gambling opportunity.
Given your characterization of your opponent, I'd cap the river. In a game with a five-bet cap (or unlimited raising heads-up, which is common in live cash games), I would probably still four-bet, but I think that's close. |

The result of course in no way determines what the correct play is....poker after all is about making good decisions, not winning some random hand but...
I think calling down in this situation is fine especially against a clown. I would never play this handin a side game. I would only play this hand in the first 2 levels. My reason for playing it are: 1. You may be ahead. 2. If you are not ahead and lose it doesnt cost you much 3. It will get you action later on from players who think you always call with low pairs. 4. Put your opponent on tilt. |
