Re: What Are Your Thoughts On This Showdown Rule?
[ QUOTE ]
Personally, I think the last aggressor, even if it was on the turn with a checked river, should be the one to show down. However, it's usually not that way in the house rules. al [/ QUOTE ] Why? Using position seems fair and would help to avoid confusion/arguments. Edit to add: and protect players nuts. |

Re: What Are Your Thoughts On This Showdown Rule?
Anyone know the reason for the "last aggressor" rule? Seems to me that on the river, the first person left of the button must act first. Why, if all active players check, should he not then show first?

Re: What Are Your Thoughts On This Showdown Rule?
Proper definition of: "He who initiates last action shows first". A check is an action.
IMO, most properly run cardrooms with real poker people running them state this rule...NOT Borgota way. |

Re: What Are Your Thoughts On This Showdown Rule?
My guess would be that the rule assumes that the majority of the time the last aggressor will be the person with the winning hand. If the winning hand is shown first, there's no real need to see the losers.
I suppose it could also be to expose the unsuccessful bluff: if you bluff and get called, you're probably going to have to show your cards. |

Re: What Are Your Thoughts On This Showdown Rule?
Shouldn't "action," though, include checking? If it does, the wording you like makes no sense.

Although it's "clockwise from button" in LA, I think the other method is more polite and better for the game. ~ Rick |

Re: What Are Your Thoughts On This Showdown Rule?
I have seen both, I haven't taken a poll on which is more common. Some places state that whoever initiated the last action shows first (that would be the first player to check if it was checked around). Some places state whoever initiated the last aggressive action shows first (that would be who ever put in the last bet or raise even on the turn). I do not have a preference for one over the other.

[/ QUOTE ] If someones been pushing the betting all the way until the river (which gets checked), IMO it's more polite that he show first. I thought this was standard in Las Vegas (I believe it's in the old Las Vegas Hilton rulebook. I believe Ciaffone tried to get it into the 1997 LA rulebook revision but he gave up, settling for more important things like the "half-bet" rule and improved rules on capping. As a minor nitty aside, I've always tried to use "clockwise from button" when describing this sort of thing rather than "left of the button" because it eliminates the need for having the proper perspective (IOW, using clockwise it's obvious we are looking at the table from above). ~ Rick |

Re: What Are Your Thoughts On This Showdown Rule?
[ QUOTE ]
At Borgata, the person who put in the last aggressive action on a hand is required to show first if the river is checked down. [/ QUOTE ] Are you positive? I thought the rule at the Borg was last aggressor on the river, if the river is checked then it becomes clockwise from the left of the button. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |

This is a MUCH clearer way of thinking about the table than "left from the button" which always makes me stop and think and then I think I'm wrong. I mean, I know they mean earliest position shows first, but I still pause for a second when I read the standard way. But clockwise from the button instantly puts the right picture in my head. Nice. If you're starting a movement to spread the clockwise word, count me in! (OK, maybe a little over-enthusiastic, but I love that feeling when one little thing makes everything clear!) |
