Re: Weird set hand - 2/4 6max
OK, so I agree with the people who say to check/call the turn. I have a chance to fill up and stack him if he has a straight or a flush on the river and I may induce a bluff by checking the turn.
Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 max, 6 handed) converter UTG ($659.36) TWP ($424.40) CO ($0) Button ($421.60) SB ($866.40) BB ($696.05) Preflop: TWP is MP with 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $2. TWP raises to $15, Button calls $15, 2 folds. (And despite what I know to be the odds, I would have wagered anyone even money that a club was going to hit this river.) |

Re: Weird set hand - 2/4 6max
Hey TWP,
If the board doesn't pair and a club gets there, I think you have to consider either giving it up entirely or check/calling. Villain would almost certainly play 2 pair fast on this flop, so his smooth call implies he's either on a draw or has flopped something very strong indeed. I like check/calling best to induce a bluff. I think Villain raises any pair + OESD on this flop, I think he raises any two pair, and I think he folds KT preflop. |

Re: Weird set hand - 2/4 6max
I think it's check/fold time TWP. Too many ways you're beaten, and I think 2 pair checks behind on this river.

Re: Weird set hand - 2/4 6max
how much fold equity do you think you have against the T if you push?
theres no way he bets 3/4 pot on the turn there with a club draw. |

Re: Weird set hand - 2/4 6max
I'd check/fold. You have to find a real gem of a player that would bet a hand worse than yours on this board. Hopefully he'll check behind and your hand will be good. I can't see you getting a call from 2 pair here.
Ok, maybe if he has the lone Ac he might bluff at it. But I can't think of much else that would make a play for this pot after the action so far. So I still am not feeling a blocker having much value and I'd like a better read to check/call. Edit: Hmm. Amoeba has a point. Maybe you can push him off a ten here. I guess you gotta figure out how likely he is to have a ten and guess whether he can fold this. |

Re: Weird set hand - 2/4 6max
What does the lone Ac have to do with anything? It's not like that gave him the nut flush draw on the turn or anything...

Re: Weird set hand - 2/4 6max
I think he means the scenario where the A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (maybe with a pair) had a backdoor draw and bet when you checked turn...

Re: Weird set hand - 2/4 6max
Maybe if he has the Ac with say AQ, he may realize he is behind but bluff representing the nut flush which he knows you can't possibly have.
So in his mind he calls flop continuation bet, bet's turn after you check (possibly giving up) gets called and then flush comes. He knows you don't have it so he reps it. |
