Raise, and there shouldn't even be a debate.

Okay, new scenario. Hero calls instead. UTG still has the betting lead. Same 3 players go to turn. UTG bets out again.
Action? |

That 3rd [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] is such a bad card for us as we might be drawing dead already. The pot going to the turn is now 7.5BBs(15SB), UTG bets giving us 8.5 to 1. If no one has the flush yet, than we could have 6 outs(excluding hearts, so 2 Js, 2Ks, 2Qs). Of these, its possible we might even be reverse dominated if a K or Q hits, so we need to heavily discount our outs. I would estimate 3 outs maybe, so its still a fold in my book.

Okay, new scenario. Hero calls instead. UTG still has the betting lead. Same 3 players go to turn. UTG bets out again. Action? [/ QUOTE ] So now we have a gutshot straight that may be drawing dead, or is at best a 3-outer. 6 overcards (2 of which create a 4-flush) which may be drawing dead. So at best we have: Overcards = 2 Outs? Gutshot = 2 Outs? So we need 11:1 and the pot is offering us 8.5:1. Seems like a pretty clear fold to me. One question - when figuring our odds here, since we *may* be drawing dead even if we hit our hand on the river - do we need to discount our odds? For example, if Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] falls on the river, we would be calling a bet. This means that we would be paying 2 bets (1 on the turn and 1 on the river) to win 9.5. So do we need to figure our pot odds at 4.75:1? Or have we already taken care of this by discounting our outs? |

...RAISES...to buy outs for your overcards and take control of the hand and buy a free card on the turn. Your BD flush is a long shot to come in, so buying outs for pairing your K or Q looks like a good idea to me. The pot is big and raising here might maximize your chances of winning it. You have a better chance of winning it if you can knock out other players.

TURN: That's a CALL. Normally, don't chase a straight with three flush cards on the board. Your only getting 10:1 to draw to the gutshot anyway and another heart will almost surely kill you so you have 3 outs at most for that. But if you figure your high pair outs might be worth a couple of outs, take a shot at this big pot for one more BB. Fold if you get check re-raised. Even a straight will be no good then.
