Re: Try and check-raise river?
Do not generally try to check-raise when you river a flush.
In the long run, you will miss a gazillion bets when villain gets scared and checks down. If you have a reliable read on villain as being super-aggressive or always making thin value bets, then go ahead and try the check-raise. If you have 3 or more opponents at the river, you can figure one of them will bet even if the aggressor doesn't and you can try a check-raise (although even then it's often better to just bet out). But against one or two typical opponents this is not +EV. Edit: The time to c/r the river is when you make complete an oesd. When you hold T9 and the board shows AQ4J, an 8 looks like a brick to villains, so they're much more likely to walk into a c/r than when the river completes an obvious flush draw. |

I did try the check-raise
Normally I will just bet out, but something about this time made me go for it. Whether it was the speed of his bets, but he seemed certain in his betting on the flop and turn.
I checked, UTG bet, Button called, I raised, UTG called, Button called... I won with the flush against A9 UTG and a stunning AK!!! from the dude on the button. Thanks for you thoughts. I'm normally 90/10 in favour of betting out (especially since reading SSHE). |

Re: Try and check-raise river?
Just bet. You'll see this checked through out of fear most often. I'd check/raise someone who value bets a lot, though.
