John Maxwell's books on leadership are awesome too. I especially liked "Failing Forward."

Comes from a pastor'background, but I'm an atheist and still appreciated it.

Very nice list! Which ones would you recommend the most? i.e. for my first read?

I know there is a huge industry around these books. That's why I had to ask on this forum. There are h8undreds of similar books on amazon. I don't want to waste my time. I only want to read the "best" ones.

Which of these books are top-notch?

All the books I listed are considered to be top books in the field. They are all also part of my rather extensive personal library.

To select which to read first, you should give consideration to which part of your life you would like to work on first. The areas they cover are pretty self explanatory from the titles.

If I had to summarize what the whole industry is about...
1. Eat Right
2. Excercise
3. Think positive
4. Set Goals
5. Be organized
6. Manage your finances
7. Get along well with others

Pick an area of focus, and start there, the books will give you guidelines on how to improve in these areas.

Wow Sniper! You are one rad dude!

I have a good idea about what areas of my persona I want/need to improve the most. The way you've outlined it together with the books you've recommended will make it easy for me to pick out the ones I need. Thank you!

Sounds stupid, but I'm reading "Natural cures they dont want you to know about" and it's actually extremely alarming. We are ingesting so many toxins in all of our food and drugs it's amazing we still function. Not just for 'curing' disease, but the book gives a great deal of information on how diet change can do and solve just about everything. Interesting read.

Too bad the guy is a complete quack who has basically been doing infomercials for years trying to make a buck; he's succeeded with this book. He's also a convicted felon.

It would be nice if people could share their stories, how self-improvement stuff have helped them (or not). For inspiration!

I can post a small succes I've had as well. I've read "Speed Reading" by Tony Buzan. I've always been somewhat of a slow reader. This helped me get up to normal or upper normal pace, by just applying some of the techniques in the book. I'm pretty sure there is room for alot more improvement, and one of me short term success goals has to to with improveing my reading speed.

The techniques in the book can help save time and also make reading more fun . Most of the stuff that is in the book can easily be found on the internet. Still I'd buy it because it's such a low investment with alot of reward.

There are many garbage pop-culture self-help books out there.

Trading is one of the most psychologically challenging things you can do. The stakes are enormous so any edge in this area converts to cash.

Think of trading as the crucible where real-world practical psychological tactics are invented by necessity. There is no harsher psychological "lab" in the world.

Consequently, you will find that some of the very best work in the area of personal psychology is found under the "Finance" category.

Trading challenges in psychology are very similiar to poker challenges in psychology.

Look for these authors:

Mark Douglas-- he has two books out. Get both. "Trading in the Zone" and "The Disciplined Trader"

Brett Steenbarger - "The Psychology of Trading"

There is one more great one I will mention if 10 people ask.
