I think it's an easier call in a normal tournament than in a satellite.

Good post.

Given your flop check I think there's a reasonable chance
that you might be ahead. Do I call? I think it's close
either way. It's still very early in the tournament. I
probably fold, although calling can't be too bad a play
either.

Villain had Jc6c and the river made him 2-pair. My fancy play allowed him to draw out on me, although I guess I didn't really misplay it.

I have mixed feelings about checking the flop. In a live
event against better players I will mix my play and check the flop in a situation like this about 25% of the time and
I find this to be profitable long term. Online against weaker players, who don't understand what I'm doing, I normally go ahead and fire away from the flop on. I'm
usually more prepared to make river calls in a situation
like yours when I check the flop b/c opponents often times don't credit me for having an Ace and they interpret my turn bet as a steal and then they try to resteal from me on the river. Checking the flop definteley puts you in more awkward spots on later streets, but assuming you play well
and make good decisions, I have no problem with this.

Probably didn't make good decision here. But sometimes double up against a bad player (like the villain in this hand)with a lower kicker.

I checked here because the flop didn't look dangerous.

Now it all makes sense.
In my experience, people who play random suited cards (especially UTG after a raise behind) love to pot-bet as soon as the board makes them a random big hand.
I can't really say you misplayed it, either. That's just one of those things.

You can't stop them all from rivering their 2- and 3-outers. Thank god for those guys, or this game would be far less profitable. At least that's what I try to tell myself after I'm done yelling obsenities.

Actually, this was a 5-outer, which made me wonder if I let villain draw too cheaply.

The check on the Flop may've given him a green light in his mind but he's obviously not a thinking player, 'cause they'd still have to come back to the fact that you raised pf....damn fishmines
