i fail to see the merit of a flop raise other than putting me in a real tough spot on the turn.

having the best hand a large % of the time isnt enough? does the decent draw help?

if the turn is a card that scares ya, just check.

Right, but your line looks more like a bluff than a straight IMO. And he's getting 13.5:1. Just calling the turn when the straight hits, then checkraising the river after CO folds... it just looks fishy I think. Of course I'm probably giving the guy way too much credit, and he isn't thinking anything along those lines, but it's not like these guys like to fold ever, and he's already put in a bet on this street.

You really think he folds a better hand?

[/ QUOTE ]

would an A9 or another J9 really call 2-cold here?
JT or QT could be induced into folding as well although that is probably a stretch.

How tough a spot? Forget what actually happened in the hand after the ck-cl -- you have second pair, the high end of an OESD, (but no over); it was checked to a PFR who bet the flop and got one caller (a PF CCer) in a biggish pot, and you're coming out of the BB. Getting three-bet is not the end of the world. Even without the 6 falling (giving the double-gutter with you holding the high-end on the low gutter), leading the turn after a flop C/R isn't generally going to be horrible; and you can still check if circumstances warrant. I don't see how raising the flop puts you in a terribly tough spot in most instances and I think I'd be more inclined to put some pressure on the other players in this decent pot on the flop.

i can setup myself to get blown off the hand, just cant explain it. i simply do not want to be such an aggressor with so many people acting first.

I hate being OOP, but this seems like a hand that is tough to get blown off of on the turn (at least along a range of "impossible to get blown off the hand <----------> please blow me off this hand"). (This post opened up all sorts of opportunities to make cracks about "getting blown off" so, be forewarned, those cracks are really not all that witty).
