I think it's fair that they tell you when you live in a flood plain.

Huh? It's my business where I chose to live, not theirs.

But the government is responsible for surveys, deeds and public records (a good function of governmnet). I think since they keep these records, they should tell you when you're deeding land in a flood plain.

Ah, I see what you were saying now. I thought you meant "it's fair that they tell you (where to live) when you live in a flood plain."

Even though I find your statement less objectionable now that I understand it, I still disagree. However, I will say that *if* we have to have a government, this is one of the functions I would least begrudge them.

Yet another reason to stop depending on the government. Now they want to tell you where to live.

No, they don't want to tell you were to live. You can live wherever you want. However, why should everyone else have to pay for the cleanup when you decide to live under sea level between the gulf of mexico, a large river and a large lake? If I decided to build a home underneath an active volcano that went off every 6 months, should taxpayers have to rebuild my house every time it got destroyed?

I feel horrible for everyone involved, but I see nothing wrong with at least having a discussion on the rebuilding effort.

If you've read any of my posts you already know what my answer would be.

Sure - but why would Hastert be a part of such discussion if not for a desire to tell others what to do?

And you have no desire to tell others what to do? Glad to hear it.

This wouldn't have anything to do with LA having a 85% vote against Bush in 2004 would it?

Or having 2 Democrat Senators in an otherwise Red State?

Let it sink.
