August 04 started 25NL 6max. Bonus / reloads helped. (I accidentally started the empire 500 reload madness). Also bet 1k on bush to win election.

Still @ 25NL 6max till Feb05. (lost ~1/7 bankroll in vegas)

March - 50NL for a very short stint, then 100. Still 6max.

April 200NL full ring, some 6 max, and some 400 ring. I made a ton in relation to my BR nutpeddling the full ring games.

May - nutpeddling/multitabling no longer works, back to 6max for June. Haven't played ring since.

July-August - took a break from school and just played 400 6 max. I set a summer goal and became uber results orientated. Dabbled @ 5/10. 3 bad beats + me playing results orientated = back down.

Back in school now. Next stop 5/10 6max.

Here's a screenshot of my spreadsheet graph (from my blog hence the jamaicans).

edit - forgot August / September was a SNG whore. 10's and 20's on stars.

I just started my way into 2/4, but I've had a hell of a run and time doing this.

October 04: deposited $20 into Prima, made it up to $100 playing SnGs and $10 NL, then lost it all.

January 05: deposited another $20 into Prima, made it up to $60, went bust yet again.

February 05: deposited another $20 into Prima, made it up to $220 before I stupidly tried to play 50 NL, lost it all. Then I won a $1k freeroll of 500 entrants for $250, and told myself to stop [censored] around and get to business. Played 10 NL, worked up to about 400, then played in the $100k freeroll, got in the money (which meant a lot to me, had to place in a satellite first), doubled my bankroll to $800.

Summer 05: Started playing 50 NL from the $800, worked up to $1000. Fluctuated between $1000 and $2000 playing 100 NL and taking shots at 200 NL before finally learning how to play, worked up to $2000, then won another MTT for $1500. Grinded away at 100 NL until I hit $4000, began 4-tabling 200 NL until I hit $6000, then won another MTT for $1100.

So proud of myself for making over $7000 this summer

Just hit $8000 and I'm 2-tabling 400 NL at the moment, not planning to move to 5/10 until I hit that 20 buy-in mark.

Started playing online last summer with freeroll money.

July 2004, won a MMT good for 2k. Cashed most out

July-Dec 2004. Played some nl, anywhere between 50nl and 200nl but id always play the 1k game and blow my roll

Dec 2004 thru May 2005. [censored] around between omaha, limit, nl. Won alot then would blow roll after tilting on 1k tables on playing 10-20 with no roll.

May 16th 2005. School ends. I find 5 bucks in an old prima account. Make it my summer project. Ill move up once I have 10 buyins for the next level until im at 100nl. Then I wait for 20 buyins until I hit 400nl. Then I stop until 30 buyins.

I started off hot, hit 500 by end of month. In june I got bored again (I fixed this problem) and played some 400nl where I kicked ass. Got up to 3900 before dropping down to 2400

End of june, I promised to play responsibly, and within my limit. I run 2400 up to playing 200nl 9.5k by the end of July and am playing 400nl.

August. I lose 3k in a day due to some atrocious cards. Nut flushes to 2 card straight flushes on unpaired board, etc

End of August. Im at 11k. My goal was to turn 5 bucks into 10k so its good enuf.

Future, well see, but soon the party 1k games. (Dec 2005)

this should really be a poll where you can view the results without voting.

in addition to the people posting their stories, im sure some 2p2ers have had some mind boggling runs and growth.

yeti, were you really playing 25nl a year ago? that is really amazing to me.

me, a year ago i had next to nothing, was playing 11$ sngs. i moved up to the 22s and 33s and kept winning about 500-600 then losing it because i was such a novice to gambling/swings. about new years i started playing much more live 1/2 and 5/5 games, and after a couple of 1K-3K wins, i thought i was set. then i proceeded to drop about 4K. about february i started playing 50nl, moved up to 100nl shortly, moved up to 200nl after about a month, and now my BR is about online 10K. I have made much more than 10K since then but thats just the amount i have online designated for poker, the other has been withdrawn to spend and save, or play live with. I play 200 nl and 400nl 6max. i play 5/5 and 5/10 live, although i play online predominantly, proably 5-6x as much. im probably sacrificing money by not moving up in my online play but right now those levels are very low risk and for where i am in life i am making incredible dollars. i earn 5x as much (this is an underestimate) 4 tabling 200nl than any other job i could have.

although there are certainly other benefits to taking those jobs/internships which poker can't gave me. but i have learned so much about money management, gambling, life, self control and those et cetera, having some stupid summer internship on my resume pales in comparison. im a much more mature and independent person for having played poker, and i wonder what life would be like without it.

Took a lot of shots at moving up, got knocked down a lot of times, kept taking risks, became numb to money in the process. Rinse repeat. Eventually ran well/played well to be comfortably rolled for 5/10, 10/20. Took shots at 10/25, 20/40, 25/50. I would be 70k richer net if I never played in any of the high stakes UB games. Ever. Lesson permanently learned after last week.

The OP was about 5/10 but since other people are sharing their lower limit stories, I'll share mine, too. Pretty similar to your post. Started playing .10/.25 limit after dropping $650 at higher limits before even knowing the rules to Holdem and which hand beats which hand. (Smart.) Made back the $650 and another $250 which I then switched over to FR NL. Dropped down to $50 but then started reading 2p2 and actually studying the game. Built up to about 400. Got a tutor (go BK_!), switched to Party 6max from UB FR and really started studying the game, posting hands, etc. Built bankroll up to around 1K and jumped from NL25 to NL100. Built up to around 3K and jumped to NL200. Now around 7.5K and soon switching to NL400. Ever since playing on Party I've been 4-tabling 6max (on my 14" laptop screen with 90% overlap!) and plan on continuing to do so.

Cheers.

But how much poorer would you be if you had always been the type of person who didn't want to take shots at higher limits?
