Actually I'm not very worried about giving free cards here, so I guess I don't completely agree with you. I just like betting to build a pot. I'm not sure why you say this board is draw-heavy...there's no flush draw and only 1 OESD possiblity. |

Re: $55- Flopped Set. Give me a better line.
Ok, after thinking about it, I think a turn raise, versus a river raise would have been best in this situation. Im fine with my flop play as, there arent too many cards that will scare me on the turn, and I want my opponents to have the opportunity to make a 2nd best hand. Some people here argued that a pot bet is necessary to build the pot, but I think 9 times out of 10 Im going to get no action on what IS a monster hand.
Obviously, one of those scare cards arrived on the turn. When my opponent bet t50 into a 45 chip pot, I should have raised to 175 to see where my opponent is immediately. If he reraises me all in immediately, I can fold safely, b/c its rare to see a 3rd raise all in in the $55s without the nuts. If he calls, I obviously make a value bet on the river barring any scary cards. |

The problem with not betting the flop and letting someone see a free turn is that this board is draw heavy. [/ QUOTE ] No it's not. [ QUOTE ] I'm not betting with my 777 to get large action, if I do great, I'm doing it to protect my hand. The only hands that someone can catch that they don't have now will have you beat on the turn. [/ QUOTE ] How many outs do hands that are behind us have? Protecting your hand is not nearly as important as extracting value in small pots. I don't mind Hero's line, but I might bet the flop for deceptive purposes and to build the pot, NOT to protect my hand. |
