I would say the moment when the dealer is pushing me a pile of red birds is the time when I feel the most generous.

I tipped more than $1 for the first time in my life about a week ago. I was playing 3/5 NL, and I won a huge pot HU from this girl who was totally spineless. I had been making moves on her all night (no, not those types of moves, you perv) and she was letting me get away with it. Anyhow, I made another absurd bluff that worked and took down about an $800 pot (1/3 of it was hers). I tipped the dealer a dollar. She turns me to in shock and said, "You just won a huge pot! You have to give the dealer more than that!"

Since I didn't want to argue about tipping and I didn't want her to be upset in any way, I figured that increasing the tip would benefit me for the rest of the evening. So I tossed the dealer a yellow ($5) chip.

But yeah, other than that one isolated incident, I tip one dollar per pot if I see the flop, regardless of game/limit.

At the MGM, red chips are uneven for whatever reason..

[/ QUOTE ]

Nobody will this this bured here, but the red chips wear out faster becasue they get the most play in the pit. As a chip wears out it gets thinner.

Yeah, when the pot gets that big I am shy about asking for the chop.

A $1 tip is a good tip. I admit being very loose and tipping $2 on very big pots a couple of times. I do tip consistently though, except for a few very bad dealers - not inexperienced bad, but talk in the box/ruin games/ rude bad.

A few nights ago, one particularly chatty dealer was greeted by a bitter regular who promised, "Shut the fuck up and I'll tip you when I win."

I don't recommend such practices.

I might tip more in that certain spot, because she was a bad passive player, but I can tell you I think it is EXTREMELY bad for one player to comment on another players tipping. And this is because when it is an obnoxious punk with his sunglasses or something, you can bet I will stiff the dealer just to bother that guy. or at least be tempted to. I had one moron start talking about me stiffing the dealer on winning the blinds or an extremely small pot or something. It also may have been that there were quartes in the extremely small raked pot and I tipped 50 instead of $1 in one hand. (.50 used to be the standard good tip) I don't remember exactly. But I tip consistently and had been. He was really upset and I would have stiffed the dealer on a huge pot just to make him mad at that point. I thought he might get mad enough to fight or something he was so obnoxious about it. If I had done this I would probably have tipped the dealer later on. It is just bad form to comment because I think commenting can cost the dealers money.

I guess I should add that most of my live play has been at Foxwoods

J/K...yeah, I agree that my tipping habits change a bit whenever I visit there. Dealers aren't keeping their own, so aren't motivated enough to go that extra mile.

I would not say that. I would and have quietly stiffed certain dealers.

This brings up another problem that I posted about below. Never comment on a player stiffing or tipping poorly. I posted below about a different reason for this. Another reason is that the player may have a very good reason to stiff one particular dealer. If you bitch he may feel compelled to defend his stiffing. Not good. What another player tips is the dealers problem, not fellow players'.
