As someone with the Dude as my avatar, I can actually say this: WATCH IT AGAIN.

I actually was not as impressed the first time through...there's just too much there.

Give me a hint as to what I supposedly missed. Are you talking about plot or humor?

I'm a huge fan of Raising Arizona and Fargo...but this one never really caught on for me.

Dunno why...

Took me three times before I liked it. It was wierd...the first time I thought it sucked...the second time (forced to watch it again) I thought it was OK...the third time I was hysterical.

A lot of catch phrases grow on you

a friend of mine loves this movie, however when he first saw it he wasnt that thrilled either.

i think its ridiculous to not find this movie brilliant.

try watching it again, the script is possibly the cohens best.

On Halloween 2003 I dressed up as the main character, The Dude. I hardly dress up for the holiday, but it was an excellent and well received costume.

I loved it but I think it caters to a really dry, if that's the right word, quirky sense of humor.

Maybe give it a second try after a while and youll pick up some of the smaller stuff, I can easily see why some people dont like it though.

Im trying to think of another movie or show to compare the humor to and I cant think of any, maybe some of the more subtle simpsons stuff?

"Nihilists! F___ me. I mean, say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos."

I can't stop laughing when I think of that line. Is that funny to most people? Perhaps not.
