On the other hand, his record is better than most people who play - he's even He should play until he wins a couple of bucks before he quits so he can say he's a lifetime winner. I think the questions and answers this generated should be useful, though I still have to go back and read them.
You really do have to play to put things you learn in any kind of perspective, at least microlimit, maybe irc. The thing is, with this kind of discipline, he ought to be able to learn to beat the game. Especially if he learned chess at a high level. Chess requires a lot of study, focus, and ability to differentiate subtle patterns. Which chess book did he write? Is his name public knowledge? Is he a grandmaster? |

>I have spent a total of $476.43 out of my $1000 budget. what a total waste of time - you could have at least lost it to someone getting a feel for the game. |

You have no honor or courage. Better to lose in battle than to run from the fight. Petaq!

I hope he doesn't use this approach on girls...
I can see it now...... After reading 5 books about women and trying to pickup on hot chicks in my "Sims" game, I have been successful, but since there's this one chick on the game that turned me down, I will no longer pursue women.... or play poker.... |

Here's a post from Dynasty, who has known mdlm for a number of years.
Here's a link to his book Here's his one visit to a live poker game (Chronicles 4) "So many people urged me to visit a casino and play with real money that I did so. After ninety minutes of $2/$4 Hold ‘Em I came to the conclusion that the players were much looser than and probably inferior to the Masque and PokerPages opponents that I regularly compete against so I left. I spent $99.84 on the casino trip ($19.25 for food, $14.59 for gas, and $66 in poker losses) And here are a couple of statements (Chronicles 5) that show he really had no chance to succeed: When I sit down at the table to play with real money I will know exactly what I will do in every situation. Working out a complete game plan for poker is definitely within my reach. I may not be able to make money implementing the game plan, but I can certainly create one |

Have to agree with Louie here, though. Unless he surprises us and a new post on the evening of 4/1 comes out, entitled "Fooled Ya! My first table report:" , it seems as if this was always intended solely as an intellectual exercise, maybe a book base.....
Oh well, it's not as if we were getting paid for trying to help. |

I may well be the only one to say it, but you're doing the right thing.
Over the course of the past 6 months, you've demonstrated a few things: 1. You're an extremely intelligent and strong analytical thinker. 2. You're a decent writer (at least compared to the average poster). 3. You take the results of your hard work very much to heart. 4. You believe that there is a "right" and "wrong" answer. Add it all up, and I agree that your time will never be best utilized by playing poker. Even if you could turn a profit, the opportunity cost of misallocating your talents would be huge. Best of luck in your future endeavors. Feel free to drop us a line from time to time. Flames aside, a lot of us have enjoyed your posts over the past 6 months. |
