Four. Reads are a luxury past a vague idea of preflop standards.

This is a terrible attitude. Playing 4 tables you really should have a decent reads on a lot of the players - much more than just preflop standards. Especially the ones that see a lot of flops.

I play 3-4. Reads are still definitely possible, since you want to choose tables with loose, bad players. It's easy to get a read on them because they're always in hands, so you can see how they play. It is harder to get a great read on TAGs or even average players - but you don't get the majority of your profits from these people anyway.

I used to play up to 8 full tables or 4-6 short tables...recently I've decided I'd like to learn how to actually play poker and have dropped down to two (and sometimes only one). I'm amazed at how much information I was missing when I relied on pokertracker to make my reads for me...although I do suck at poker so take that FWIW I guess.

I used to always play 4, after my first losing month - I play 2 or 3.

I play 2.

If I play three, I lose every time.

If I play 2, I only lose sometimes.

Guy.

Just out of curiosity. How many hands/table/hour do you play? And what is you average number of players/table.

650+ hand per hour. At my best I'm around 720. 5.5 players.
