Re: Pocket Jacks: Satan\'s Meathooks
I would be more worried about the allin than the button.
I like a stop and go here if no paint shows on the flop. |

Re: Pocket Jacks: Satan\'s Meathooks
This seems to me to be a particularly dangerous situation.
You have one guy who is already all in - so you know you are headed to a showdown. You have one other guy who knows that he can't get busted out even if he calls your all-in - so I would say that he is a likely call. I would be seriously tempted to fold this hand, knowing that if the all-in player gets knocked out, then I am in the money right there. |

Re: Pocket Jacks: Satan\'s Meathooks
There is no way anyone can reasonably assume that a guy who goes all-in from UTG with 5xBB has your pocket jacks beaten. He might, sure, but he might have any number of decent hands.
The call is more difficult to read because sometimes a call means a big hand trying to suck you in, and sometimes it means nothing at all. If SB was a big stack, for instance, he might have been leaving himself room to get away from the hand if SB came over the top. It's hard to say unless you have a read on him from the way he's been playing. I am most likely pushing here. |

Re: Pocket Jacks: Satan\'s Meathooks
The all in has any two, the caller is calling any two, and you have a pair on a 5 player table.
Unless 9th place offers life changing money, I have to push. In fact, even if it does offer life changing money, I have to push, since I had more chips than the all in to start with. |

Re: Pocket Jacks: Satan\'s Meathooks:Outcome
I push all-in, button calls. Short stack flips over A-8, button has K-Qs. An A and a Q hit the board. Buh-bye.

Re: Pocket Jacks: Satan\'s Meathooks
[ QUOTE ]
Do you: a) raise all-in (the only raise you can make, given your stack, to a $5000 bet) b) call c) fold [/ QUOTE ] QQ, KK, and AA dominate me. AK, AQ, KQ are racing with me. I am stronger than anything else. Easy push. The late position caller will call the push most of the time. The only time I'm screwed here is if I end up in third place, when UTG has the best hand, and the other guy beats me for the side pot. That puts me out on the bubble. If the other guy scoops, I finish in the money because the short stack had the smaller stack when the hand started; he takes 10th and I get 9th. If the short stack has the best hand, I can still end up about even by taking the side pot. If I have the best hand, I go into the final table with what is now a substantial stack. Things are looking pretty good for me all around and I'm certainly not the type to play ultratight on the bubble. I'd rather get through it with a nice stack and have a shot at the real money than get blinded off in the shallow end of the prize pool |
