Re: WLLH: is its premise untrue?
You can find plenty of weak online tables, but in general they are much tighter and much more aggressive than comparable low-limit casino games. Your opponents mistakes are still many (though the maniacs, somewhat rare in live play, thrive online in good numbers), but you will certainly have to adjust if you primarily play these limits live. It's good practice to search for loose tables with weak opponents.
None of this has much to do with the premise of the Lee Jones book, which has more to do with playing tight/safe poker in spots with healthy EV. If anything this book has been accused of being too weak/tight in general. An important book (i.e. THE book) for these onlines games is Small Stakes Hold 'Em, which you should pick up ASAP. |

[ QUOTE ]
Sammy, I think Jones's Book is great. It will keep you out of trouble, and you should break around even, depending what level you are playing and how good your table selection is. That said, I think to be a 1BB/100+ winner, you will need to learn more skills. Play hands, lurk here, post relevant hands, and read SSH at a comfortable pace. It is a long process, but lots of fun. [/ QUOTE ] Thx. I ordered SSH and ITH from Amazon last week. I don't know if it's his style of writing, but it's tough for me to remember all his rules (if X but not Z (and if not Y - see footnote), then do V, unless X and Y occur, then do T. A chart would have been nice. Btw, what is 1BB/100+ (last newbie question - I'll use search function for other questions). |

His book is pretty much rote learning. Things will get easier once you understand the concepts behind his advice. I would like to reccommend "Theory of Poker" by David Sklansky. It is tough dry reading the first time around. But if you play for a few months, and read as you go, it starts to make sense. I have read it 6 times in the last year, and "get" a little more of it each time. BB/100= equals the average amount of Big bets you win per 100 hands. Don't get too obsessed with it. IT is a statistic from a program called "Pokertracker", you can buy this at www.pokertracker.com. |
