[/ QUOTE ] this is why you completely shutdown against mike l. and just call down i've never played with him and i've already figured out how to play with him just in case he ever appeared at my 40 game. |

Re: hand vs. mike l.
There are a range of hands Mike has in the BB and a range of hands he doesn't (lol, that means squat!). If he knows that you know he is Mike, and he knows you have read his posts on this particular forum then you should know that he knows he is going to use that knowledge to his advantage.
The play for this hand is simple..either Mike has an Ace, two pair or a set or a smaller pocket pair say 88 or 99. Mike is going to cap with JJ, QQ, KK, AA possibly TT as well before the flop going up against 2 other players so we can likely rule those hands out since that did not happen. So you are either really ahead or you aren't. If you tend to err on the conservative side we can put Mike on A-x a good percentage of the time and a pocket pair a small percentage of the time. I'm too lazy to work out the math, but if you look at the pot size and then look at the possible holdings for Mike I believe calling him down here is optimal play. If Mike puts pressure back on you at any time you will have to fold your hand since Mike clearly not only has TT beat, but AQ (not AK though) as well if he is willing to 3-bet you on the turn. So you might as well just call and go to showdown. At least then you won't have to second guess the results. My two cents. Lawrence |

Re: hand vs. mike l.
Why would you raise the turn agaist somebody you wouldnt feel comfortable folding to a three bet? Doesnt make any sense to me. I'm not saying your play was bad, it seems like a very reasonable way to play the hand, but if you were second guessing yourself on the way home then I think there were probably better lines. It seems unlikely Mike would three bet a worse hand on the turn, but I really have no idea, I've never played with him. Given your description I would probably just call down the entire hand. BTW I think its next to impossible for all but handfull of people to beat a ten handed 40-80 game seeing 40% of the flops.

It's not impossible mike will fold a weak ace [/ QUOTE ] I don't see mike calling two cold out of the blinds with a weak ace, even suited. ~ Rick |
