Buying in short - Bankroll considerations???
It seems to me that, while most people in this thread are discussing limit games, this is most applicable to NO LIMIT cash games. This idea interested me and I tried it last night, buying into the $50NL at Party for $20. I did well. I certainly changed the way I played both pre- and post-flop. Of course, my hand selection is different b/c of the decreased implied odds. Also, you are killing your opponents implied odds and they usually haven't accounted for this in their starting hand selection. It is easier to get all-in post-flop for obvious reasons, so if you play accordingly, it follows that you can force your opponents into mistakes. So far, it appears that missing those chances to stack an opponent are being outweighed by the other advantages of this strategy. Also, the variance is clearly lower.
If one is bankrolled for a $100NL game, would he be playing above his roll if he bought into a $200NL game for $100? How about $50?
