I've read that the Reno/Tahoe poker scene is dead. Nevertheless, Im heading up to Tahoe from Aug 12-21 as a compromise to the wife (who didnt want to go to Vegas), and will write up a trip report (probably focusing more on Tahoe's Harvey/Horizon casinos; I do hope to play at the Peppermill, though).

The correct compromise would have been LA, but you already know that Gonna miss you two while I'm chillin at the Commerce!

I used to live in Reno and still go there occasionally. For breakfast and lunch go to Heidi's on Virginia St near Plumb.

Oh yeah, I work for a company in Reno and put up several times a month there. Peppermill is the best card room I've seen so far, but haven't visited them all...

Peppermill is going to be the best bet esp at $50. Make sure you get a tower room instead of the 'deluxe room'. They used to have an adequate to good poker room comp but who knows what they have.

If you're looking to mingle Reno probably isn't the best place. Tahoe does have the babe factor locked down but if you are there to gamble Reno is the better place and there is always a short drive down I80

That 50 buck rate will most likely be for the motel behind the hotel, both the Atlantis and the Peppermill feature this.

For low limit hold em Eldorado (downtown) is the place to be. For that old timey feel be sure to sit at the 2-4-8 spread limit at the Cal-Neva. Do not neglect to get an awful-awful at Jerry's nugget downtown. For cheap rooms I like the Circus-Circus it is not nearly as skanky as it's Vegas counterpart.

check out Cheapo Reno

Oh and Tahoe is dead poker wise but the spread game at the Horizon is super soft

If you're going to Tahoe just enjoy the lake and forget poker.

I hate the outdoors. I am doing Tahoe solely as a concession to my wife. I wanted a week on the Strip.

OOps I responded with the wrong identity. Oh well. Anyhow, we considered LA, but decided the drive time to/from the casinos would be too time consuming.

Eat Downtown at Roxy's Bistro. Very good food at a realy nice place. One of the best steaks I've ever had!!! They take reservations which I highly recomend. I was also pleased with their prices.

Check out the Hilton poker rate. As I recall it was very reasonable.

Reno is heaven for poker players who like the outdoors too. If you are a 300lb online pro, you might want to stay home. Between the altitude and dry air............you get the picture.
