FYI it was a 3x raise to 36k, not a minraise....

Now I'm very confused, Che had it as an opening for 24K.

It looks like a regular raise in Double Eagles's reply.

Well if the level just started, and I'm not going to be at 8BB's for a while, I fold.

I do think the re-raise steal is more effective than the open raise steal, but again, you've been stealing effectively, EP raise from a guy who can bust you, you don't know if he's been out of line, and your push will look like it doesn't want a call...meh, I fold.

Woodguy

I would move allin generally, but Im not very happy about it. If I had 250k along with my opponent, I think calling is a reasonable option. I don't think calling is quite as bad a idea as Strasser makes it out to be, but I still prefer just moving allin. The chips in the pot add over 20% to your stack and you have a strong hand.

Default preflop clarification and results

UTG+1 raised 24000 to 36000, not *to* 24000 as I originally posted. Thanks to Double Eagle for catching my error.

I didn't like my play when I misread the HH and thought he had minraised, but given that he opened for 3BB and not a minraise, I like my decision to push a little more.

I think the 3bb open makes AA a little less likely and makes the pot (30% of my stack) worth fighting for even if I occasionally run into a monster.

I did in fact run into KK. Chief screamed for an A, but none came. Chief cursed the dealer, and I went back to my normal life 4-tabling SNG's.

Thoughts: I think this is a push/fold decision. Normally, either would be fine, but pushing was actually terrible in this specific situation.

I was stealing with reasonable frequency and getting respect for my raises PLUS I had a bigtime chip splasher 2 to my left who also happened to be the chip leader in the tourney. While I generally scoff the "I can find better situations later" line, I think it actually applied in this case.

Of course, if that A had come and I had gone on to win the tournament, I probably wouldn't have even posted this so I might be being results oriented. Who knows?

Thanks for all the replies,
Che

I'm still learning the MTT ropes so to speak, so take that into consideration b4 digesting my reply.

I re-raise to 100K. I think it's likely utg+1 has solid had. I think the best play on him is forcing him to define his hand early. He as enough of a chip stack to make an agressive move on the flop if you just call, thus putting you in a position of risking you're stack.

If I'm out in left field here, please let me know.

That is left field because of the stack sizes. It makes little sense to reraise over half your stack becuase you have to call a push anyway, and you want to maximize your fold equity.

There's ~T48,000 in the pot. You need to push or fold.
If you call then the remaining players are going to get great odds to call and the multiway pot will be a crapshoot.
I'd push just out of contempt for the miniraise.

I do to.

That's usually because a newb is telling you to lay down TPTK/ nut flush draw w/ a back door straight draw getting 5:1 for the rest of your chips.

Think it makes some sense here though.
