Maybe the counting part itself isn't so hard, but where the math comes in is determining the correct bet based on the count, how deep into the shoe etc. I couldn't pull that off in my head.

Of the math wizzes I know none is better than any reasonably bright person at doing basic arithmetic mentally. It's a skill that is almost never used in our modern world. And frankly, it's not hard to learn if you for some reason need it.
