My experience is that such a raises are almost always called because most people want "to see one more card" but its probably game selection matter.

Sure you have to recognize the table texture and act accordingly. A nice line that opens up for you when do is this to check behind on the turn which usually leads to a decent payoff on the river. This worked out very well for me last night at Party NL50 table I was at. I dont always play my draws this way but its not something I shy away from anymore either.
