In July I have 15K hands at 5/10 6max. The first 10K hands I won 500BB. The last 5K I have lost over 200BB in the form of 150BB drop, 50BB rise, 180BB drop. Last night was the 180BB drop in 1500 hands. It takes intestinal fortitude to play this game. My bankroll is 800BB at the site, and I have reserves. 300BB is not nearly enough IMHO.

I really appreciate the advice. 3/6 for me for a while now. And they do have 6 max now! Great news.

Dr. Al Schoonmaker did an article a couple of years ago on psychological bankroll. While one may have a theoretically sufficient amount to play at a certain level they may actually be out of their comfort zone.

Kicking off the festivities with a nice $1500 loss (all too common in that game) would leave most people pulling their hair out, wondering how long it will take to blow the remaining amount.

You can check the psych forum for a link to the essay. It is in the "bankroll psychology for my career so far" in barrongreenburgs post.

Mandatory reading. And mandatory re-reading for those who have seen it.

If you are beating 5/10, I would stay there just grow your bankroll. I'm comfortable with 1000BB.

This is kinda what happened to me when I moved up to 5/10 max, but my drop was 180BB. I killed a drifter that night.

Oh, well. I'm sure he deserved it, anyway.

My first weekend full time (God, I hate the phrases "Going pro" and "As a pro") was marked by four 100 BB downswings followed by two and a half weeks of breaking even.

Oddly enough, I am glad it happened this way. Better to learn how to hold it together than get spoiled with unrealistic expectations.

Can't wait till my next character building run (we need a vomiting emoticon).
