wasn't palpatine getting worked by samuel l. before anakin stepped in and saved him?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, everybody has a losing session every now and again.

Jedi is a long term game, Palpatine has +EV.

[ QUOTE ]
and isn't the downfall of the darkside is using emotion when fighting?

[/ QUOTE ]

Anger clouds the mind so it can mess up judgement, although it is a very useful weapon in combat.

Sith use anger and Jedi remain calm to keep clarity and focus.

This relates very much to Martial Arts.

[ QUOTE ]
i dunno, it just seems like first of all someone from the darkside doesnt have jedi powers therefore can't have the greatest jedi powers but if you were to debate who were the most powerful then it would have to be between a jedi knight and not someone from the darkside.

[/ QUOTE ]

You have the Force which is just "there" and then two groups: Jedi and Sith.

Both train with a lightsaber, how they use it is different.

The Jedi meditate and try to 'feel' what the force is telling them and be at peace with themselves, where the Sith just use the force for their own selfish reasons.

Both would have started out "Jedi", its just that "Sith" broke away and embraced the darkside where some original members didn't ... thus Jedi became a term for the light side, Sith for the dark.

[ QUOTE ]
but i am probably wrong.

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe I am too, I have never been to a Star Wars convention, and only read one novel and none of the EU comics but I will say this.

If I was given a choice, I'd choose Sith ... that lightening [censored] is too cool, if I had that power I would be zapping motherfuckers left right and centre every day.

Me: "How long is the waiting list for the 10/20"
Poker Boss: "There are 5 people ahead of you"
Me: "What?" *zap*
Poker Boss: "You're next"
Me: "What?" *zap*
Poker Boss: "I'll kick someone off the table for you"
Me: "Thats right bitch, you will"

(now back to reality of me getting my ass kicked every day in real life)

since the OP clearly asks [ QUOTE ]

then Palpatine cannot be the answer

I don't think this is correct. some sith were turned from the jedi, but some clearly weren't. Palpatine, for one was never a jedi. neither was Darth Maul.

The OP gives reasons why he thinks Palpatine is the answer.

I'm talking about in the begining, the very first of the "Jedi".

Logically they would have discovered both sides of the force in their training but then as a collective set out rules of what is acceptable use and unacceptable use. (ie- light = ok, dark = bad)

The ones who rejected the "moral code" of only using light would have seperated and segregated themselves under a new name. (Sith)

Ofcourse, it could be possible for the light to be born out of the dark, but thats a further stretch for many more reasons than I care to explain between Stud hands.

Perhaps I should have entitled the post "Most Powerful Star Wars Character." This would have alleviated the debate over whether Sith qualify for consideration.

However, since I mentioned that Dooku referred to his powers as "Jedi powers" I think the originally posted title works.

I don't think Vader can qualify as the greatest due to three separate ass kickings:

1) Anakin vs. Dooku in Episode II.
2) Vader vs. Obi Wan in Episode III.
3) Vader vs. Luke in Episode VI.

Also, after getting crippled by Obi Wan, his powers in the original trilogy are but a shadow of what he had in the newer movies. Other big disqualifiers:

Obi Wan: 2 losses to Dooku in episodes II and III, plus a loss to Vader in IV (that one can be argued as intentional, though).

Yoda: Draw with Dooku in II and loss to Palpatine in III.

Dooku: Catastrophic loss to Anakin in Episode III.

To quote myself, [ QUOTE ]
Palpatine was the only consistent performer.
