Check/raise if CO bets. Check/call if someone else bets. Fold to 2 bets to me.

what does "grunch" mean?

we've got 2nd pair, top kicker and a bdfd. we may be ahead, and if we're not we've got ~7.5 outs. check, plaining to raise CO to protect your hand.

I would go for the check-raise here, but if it is bet and raised back to me I would probably fold. With the table being weak passive I would think CO has a hand. Not sure if that is the correct thing to do?

I'm still pretty new here, so I'm playing.

bet the flop. we have 1.5 outs for the BDFD (so Ed Miller says), 2 8 outs, and 3 A outs. With 6.5 outs, my handy dandy flop equity calculator I coded out (and am looking to share if I can find a place to host it for free/figure out how to mail an .exe file) tells me we have 28% equity at this point.

...so by the time it reaches CO, if he raises, as long as 2 of the limpers called my initial bet, I'm 3-betting for value.

[thread hijack] Can somebody help me out on the file hosting/distributing thing? its a single .exe file [/thread hijack]

EDIT - equity calculations are assuming we're behind a made hand already right now

There's a thread floating around by GrunchCan about commenting on threads when you haven't read the replies, to build up your reading skills and to pull any bad tendencies out of you. Thus Grunching has become part of the 2+2 vernacular of late.

Betting out and check/raising balance the two ideas of trying to win the most when you win the pot and winning the most pots. Check/raising increases the chance you will win this pot. Betting increases the size of the pot when you win it. Both options are correct under certain conditions. I think here there aren't enough loose limpers to bet for value. I think a check/raise is the better play in this scenario.
